Jeff Helms is the principal lawyer of the firm. He is supported by two legal assistants and another legal secretary. Mr. Helms has won numerous jury trials since beginning his career in 1986. Mr. Helms has been lead counsel in obtaining the largest verdicts in surrounding counties for injured clients, including the largest jury award for personal injury damages in Coffee and Berrien Counties.

Mr. Helms tries cases in the state and superior courts of Coffee, Lowndes, Ware and Thomas counties, as well as many other surrounding counties. Mr. Helms also practices extensively in the federal courts of Valdosta, Waycross and Macon, Georgia. In these courts Mr. Helms works to protect the rights of people who have been wrongfully injured in car wrecks, hospitals or nursing homes, by a defective product, or have been the victim of business fraud or deception. Additionally, Mr. Helms represents working men and women throughout South Georgia in the workers’ compensation courts for on-the-job injuries.

The Helms family began representing the people of South Georgia when Jeff Helms’ father, Jack Helms, Sr., opened his practice in Pearson, Georgia in 1958. Soon he was recognized as one of the top trial lawyers in the state. The State Bar of Georgia honored him, in 1987, with one of its highest awards, Tradition of Excellence Award. While a practicing trial lawyer he won many record verdicts and numerous cases for his clients.

Jeff Helms joined his father in 1986. In 1990, Jeff Helms’ wife, Cathy Helms, also a lawyer, joined the practice. Together, they have successfully represented hundreds of clients throughout South Georgia. In 2004, Cathy was elected as the first female District Attorney for the Alapaha Judicial Circuit representing the people of Berrien, Cook, Clinch, Lanier, and Atkinson counties. We are proud of her as she continues to represent those who have been victims, this time by the crimes of others.
